Not long ago, the famous Boston Dynamics robotics company demonstrated a new version of the SpotMini robot, which is equipped with a manipulator arm with a grip on its end, with which it can perform various actions, including opening locked doors. However, the first demonstration was so simple that it left a certain amount of disappointment behind. And in order to remedy this situation, Boston Dynamics has once again demonstrated the robot SpotMini, actively resisting the actions of an aggressive man.
The new published video was filmed in the same place and from the same angle as the previous one. As before, the robot is about to open the door with its manipulator, but at this moment a human appears on the scene, using a hockey stick to prevent the robot from doing its job.
Having failed with the stick, the man starts pulling the SpotMini robot back using the belt attached to it. The person pulls the robot back so hard that the robot almost loses its balance and body parts begin to fly off of it. But despite the loss of parts, the robot rushes to the door again, when it has the opportunity to do so, and tries to open the door again.
Note that this time the SpotMini robot demonstrates a number of new realistic movements, including the way it “slows down” in front of the door to assess the situation and plan further actions. The process of opening the door is almost the same as what we have seen before, the robot uses the movements of the manipulator and uses a limb to prop up the door and prevent it from closing again.
According to information provided by specialists of Boston Dynamics, this test was a test of the SpotMini robot’s ability to resist and overcome suddenly arising obstacles and obstacles. Note that the robot received the command to open the door and go through it, acting further completely autonomously, using the data in it and the software algorithms.
And in conclusion, it should be noted that, according to representatives of Boston Dynamics, during the filming of this video “not a single person or robot was injured.
